Kilimaya Reserve

Kilimaya Reserve is the 100 km² African hunting ground added in Update 0.2 on 27 May 2026. Version 1.0 keeps it as the second full reserve beside New Laurentia. The story asks you to support a safari guide, train with an archery expert, and find a retired huntress. Thirteen hunt-able species live here, including charging southern lion, common hippopotamus, and Cape buffalo.

Update 0.2 trailer

Official Kilimaya Reserve trailer from THQ Nordic.

Dangerous game

Southern lion

Charging predator on the Kilimaya roster. Treat close brush as a contact problem, not a photo stop.

Cape buffalo

Charging herbivore. The studio names Cape African buffalo among the animals that will close the distance.

Common hippopotamus

Charging ungulate tied to water. The waterline screenshot is the visual cue for this chapter.

Nile crocodile

Predator on the water edges of the same African sheet. No invented shot table is attached.

Safari chapter, not a reskin of Laurentia

Update 0.2 did not tack a biome filter onto New Laurentia; it shipped a second 100 km² reserve with its own NPCs and a twelve-animal African list that later grew to thirteen. Greater kudu, blue wildebeest, blesbok, Cape mountain zebra, ostrich, and yellow-billed duck share the sheet with the dangerous-game names. Southern common warthog arrived in Update 0.3.0, which is why a 1.0 Kilimaya hunt includes a pig that Early Access 0.2 players did not have.

The official trailer still sells water, red rock, and a hippo at the shoreline. That is the image this page uses as the chapter opener: a documentary crop, not a fake map with invented coordinates. If you came here from New Laurentia looking for moose numbers, turn around — the two reserves do not share species in the 1.0 FAQ split.

What “dangerous game” means in the records

Nine Rocks Games called out charging behavior for southern lion, common hippopotamus, and Cape African buffalo. Those three are the only charging names in the captured FAQ, so elephant and leopard stay off the 1.0 Kilimaya list. Nile crocodile and spotted hyena are predators on the same sheet without a charging flag in that list. Cape honey badger is the mustelid counterpart to New Laurentia’s wolverine.

Because no per-animal encyclopedia stats were published, the dangerous-game panel is a named list with the charging note where it exists, not a made-up energy or caliber table. Use the species ledger if you need class and added-in columns for all thirteen. Gear with a heavier rifle still has to come from the licensed roster — Merkel, Christensen, CVA, Strasser, Primacy — rather than from a hidden Kilimaya-only gun.

After the safari: lodge, dog, and later maps

Trophies from Kilimaya mount in the Headquarters hall the same way New Laurentia heads do. The dog’s blood track and sign search work on this reserve; the studio did not split companion commands by continent. Co-op is the same two-player free-play session, still without cross-play. Season Pass language points at later hunting grounds in Central Asia and southern South America, which are not in the 1.0 base maps.

If your next job is glass and callers rather than another reserve, the gear compare lists ZEISS DTC clip-ons, V8 scopes, Primos callers, and the Night Hunting Pack optics. If you still need the African thirteen in a filterable table, open the species atlas and set the reserve control to Kilimaya Reserve.

Water, red rock, and a second 100 km² walk

Walk the waterline first. Hippo and crocodile live in the same visual language as the official trailer: shoreline, heat, and a body that does not care about your .243. Cape buffalo and lion close distance; the FAQ names those charges and does not name an elephant. Honey badger is the small dangerous surprise, ostrich and duck are the bird work, warthog is the 0.3.0 pig.

Archery training with the named expert is a story beat, not a hidden bow skill tree. Bows still have no alternate ammo at 1.0. If you came to Kilimaya with a Night Hunting Pack clip-on, the thermal is legal 1.0 kit, not a cheat. If you came without it, ZEISS DTC clip-ons are in the base game from 0.3.0.

Finish the safari NPCs, then take heads back to Elijah’s hall. Co-op on this reserve is still two players, same platform, a world that does not share your solo feeder work. Season Pass maps in Central Asia and southern South America are later chapters. Kilimaya is the African 100 km² you already own in 1.0.

What to carry on the African sheet

Kilimaya rewards heavier rifles and patience on water. Lion, buffalo, and hippo are the charging names. Crocodile and hyena are predators without that FAQ flag. Warthog is the 0.3.0 add. Duck and ostrich are the bird work, and they want choke you already patterned at the lodge.

The safari guide, archery expert, and retired huntress are the story cast. They do not replace the 13-row ledger. If you came from New Laurentia expecting moose, you are on the wrong continent. If you came from Deluxe expecting a fourth map, Season One’s Central Asia and South America are still later.

Night Hunting Pack optics are optional. ZEISS DTC clip-ons are not — they are 0.3.0 base kit. Suppressors have been in since 0.1. Co-op here is still two players on one platform. Hang the buffalo at Headquarters and you have finished the African chapter the 1.0 FAQ actually shipped.

Glass the water before you wade it. Hippo and crocodile own that edge, and the trailer already taught the silhouette.
